Veteran Care: Finding Services in Garland, Texas

Veteran Care: Finding Services in Garland, Texas

As of 2022, more than 16 million veterans are in the United States, most of whom are men 75 and older from the Vietnam War era. Senior veterans in America earn many benefits and resources from state and federal programs as a reward for their service. However, not many vets take advantage of the resources at their disposal.

In honor of the recent Veteran’s Day holiday, we’ve compiled a list of local resources and services to help you navigate your rights and benefits as a U.S. veteran in Garland.

Veteran Organizations Serving Garland, Texas

There are many resources throughout Texas that you could be taking advantage of as a veteran. If you live in Garland, consider contacting the following organizations to utilize your veteran benefits.

Dallas County Veteran Services

Dallas County Veteran Services is an advocate office that works with veterans and their families to ensure veterans receive all their benefits after service. The office assists with filing claims and following up with claim processes until a definitive decision is made for the veteran.

The office is by appointment only, which you can schedule online.

Garland VA Medical Center

The Garland VA Medical Center is an integrated healthcare system for veterans. The medical center provides various services, including primary care, lab work, nutrition counseling, social work, women’s healthcare, and more.

One of the reasons veterans choose VA medical centers instead of a standard doctor’s office is that there are Patient Advocates at every center. Advocates are trained professionals who can help resolve healthcare issues.

Garland County Veteran Service Office

The Garland County Veterans Service Office helps veterans, and their families obtain benefits from the U.S. Veterans Administration. Representatives at the office can help answer questions about benefits, provide application forms, and assist with legal representation for formal claims. This office can also help veterans establish membership with local veteran service organizations.

Veteran Crisis Line

The Veteran Crisis Line is a 24-hour crisis support line for veterans and their families. You can call or text this organization for emotional or mental support during troubling times. The organization connects you with a real person and provides guidance and counseling to help you navigate your situation. You don’t have to be enrolled in veteran benefits or healthcare to contact them.
