5 Tips for Caregivers to Keep Their New Year’s Resolutions

5 Tips for Caregivers to Keep Their New Year’s Resolutions

Studies have shown that almost 90% of those who make resolutions fail within the first two weeks. One of the most common reasons people give up is because their goals are unrealistic.

5 Tips to Achieve Your New Year’s Resolutions

Setting achievable goals can help in-home caregivers reach their resolutions in 2025 and beyond. Here are five easy tips to do just that.

1. Be Picky

Many individuals don’t follow through on their New Year’s resolutions because they have too many. To improve your chances of success, you should stick to one or two goals. Consider what resolutions would enhance your life the most.

Want to improve your health? Set a goal of eating better. Have you been overwhelmed lately? Resolve to dedicate more time to self-care.

2. Use Details When Creating Goals

A good New Year’s resolution is specific. The more detailed, the better. Vague resolutions make it difficult to know what actions to take to achieve our goals. Instead of having a resolution to exercise more, make a more specific goal, like working out for 40 minutes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 3 pm, beginning next week.

3. Break Your Goal Down into Actionable Steps

Some goals can’t be achieved in a month or two. If your New Year’s resolution may take a year to achieve, consider breaking it down into actionable monthly or weekly steps. Say, for instance, you want to lose 25 pounds this year. Create a monthly action plan with daily steps to reach your goal. This can include walking more, going to the gym twice a week, or incorporating more healthy foods into your weekly meal plan.

4. Get an Accountability Buddy

We function better when we have the support of our loved ones. Ask your spouse, best friend, or relative to be your New Year’s resolution accountability buddy. They can help you eat healthier, remind you to drink more water, or workout with you. Accountability partners keep us motivated and focused on our goals.

5. Be Flexible

Remember, life rarely goes according to plan. Throughout the year, setbacks and bottlenecks can make you feel like achieving your goal is impossible. It’s essential to stay flexible and patient during these times. Don’t beat yourself up for skipping the gym or indulging in ice cream. Be kinder to yourself.
