Transportation Options for Loveland Seniors Who Don’t Drive

Transportation Options for Loveland Seniors Who Don’t Drive

As we age, tasks that were once simple, like driving, may start to become a challenge to complete. At a certain point, many seniors must hang up their keys and consider alternate transportation options. While friends and family members may be able to provide rides on occasion, older adults have to find other resources for getting around on a regular basis.

Driving Alternatives for Staying Active Around Loveland

Affordable, safe, and easy-to-access transportation options are a must in order for seniors to attend crucial appointments and maintain their overall independence. Here are some of the best driving alternatives for on-the-go seniors in the Loveland area.

Ride Shares

On-demand ride services like Uber and Lyft can be helpful for seniors who are comfortable using smartphone apps. Uber Assist is available in some areas for older adults with accessibility needs. The drivers receive special training to assist passengers with mobility, plus their vehicles can accommodate wheelchairs, scooters, and walkers.

Senior Transportation Services

The Loveland area has many free or low-cost senior transportation programs available, including:

SAINT Volunteer Transportation: Non-profit driver organization that serves Loveland and Fort Collins. Free for adults 60 or older who meet eligibility requirements. Unfortunately, the service is not available to those who use wheelchairs or scooters.

COLT (City of Loveland Transit): The city’s door-to-door paratransit program is available for adults 60 plus who can’t access fixed bus routes. Each bus is equipped with an accessibility ramp and wheelchair lift, and a driver who will assist you once you get on the bus. Fare is $2 per single trip, $1 reduced fare is available for seniors who qualify.

Dial-A-Ride Paratransit: A paratransit service through Transfort, Fort Collins’ public transportation company. Available to those who are unable to access a fixed bus schedule. No fee within the city of Fort Collins.

Windsor Senior Rides: Available for Windsor residents over the age of 60. $4 for rides within Windsor, $6 for out of town rides to Loveland, Greeley, and Fort Collins.

60 Plus Ride: A non-profit volunteer driver organization that serves all of Weld County, including Severance and Windsor. Riders must be ambulatory and able to get in and out of the vehicle with minimal assistance. Rides must be scheduled at least one week prior to the requested trip. The service is free, but donations are appreciated.

Heart & Soul Paratransit: A family-owned transportation provider serving all ages in Northern Colorado. $20 pickup in Fort Collins, plus $3 per mile. $30 for pickup in Loveland and outlying areas, plus $3 per mile.

Via Mobility Services: Accessible non-profit transportation company for older adults and disabled individuals that serves multiple counties, including Weld and Larimer. Drivers escort riders door through door. Fare is $6 ($12 roundtrip) each way and town-to-town fare is $12 ($24 round trip).
