Home Care for Veterans

Visiting Angels
Lowell, AR

At Visiting Angels in Lowell, Arkansas, it is our mission to provide compassionate, high-quality, and personalized at-home care for aging veterans. We hope to provide aging veterans with care and companionship that honors their service while also respecting their independence and protecting their dignity.

The increasing cost of at-home care is one of the top problems that veterans and their families face. This is a recurring issue that is becoming even more apparent as the number of elderly veterans continues to rise.

However, veterans who have served in the U.S. military, including the Marine Corps, Air Force, Navy, Army, and Coast Guard, are all eligible for at-home personal care benefits from the Veterans Administration (VA). These benefits can help cover the costs of in-home care services, making it easier for aging veterans to receive the support and assistance they need to remain independent.

Qualifications for Veterans’ Benefits

To qualify for financial assistance that covers 24/7 at-home care, you or your veteran family member should ideally meet the following criteria:

  • Have previously served in the military, naval, marine, or air service
  • Not have been dishonorably discharged. All other discharge conditions are acceptable
  • Be a current or former member of the Reserves or National Guard, called to active duty by a federal order, and have completed the required period of active duty

Understanding Veterans’ Benefits

U.S. veterans may be eligible for various health benefits, including personalized at-home care, through programs like Aid and Attendance and the Community Care Network.

Aid and Attendance Program

Senior veterans already receiving a VA pension may also qualify for Aid and Attendance benefits. This program provides financial support to those needing special assistance, such as 24/7 at-home care. It covers veterans who are bedridden, reside in a nursing home, need help with daily activities, or have impaired vision. Those confined to their homes due to a permanent disability may also be eligible for "housebound" benefits. Typically, Aid and Attendance benefits are added directly to the veteran’s monthly pension.

Community Care Network Program

Veterans who qualify for the Community Care Network may also receive assistance with at-home care costs. A dedicated service care coordinator will assess the required hours of care per week and ensure adequate support is provided. This coordinator also helps veterans and their families connect with caregivers in the Lowell, Arkansas, area. Unlike Aid and Attendance benefits, Community Care Network benefits are paid directly to partner organizations rather than to the veteran.

Northwest Arkansas’ Veteran Care Community

In Northwest Arkansas, we love partnering with our friends at Fayetteville Vet Center, VA Regional Benefit Satellite Office at Fayetteville, AR, VA Website for HHA and many others as we provide excellent veteran services.

Applying for Veterans’ Benefits

The application process for veterans' benefits can be lengthy. Therefore, it is advisable to apply for 24/7 at-home care benefits well in advance of needing them. Early application helps avoid out-of-pocket expenses for home care while awaiting approval.

The local Visiting Angels office in Georgetown, Texas, has successfully assisted many veterans and their families with the documentation required for veterans’ benefits. If you need help filling out the 10-10EZ form, feel free to contact us. Our staff will help gather the necessary identification, medical records, and financial documents to support your application.
