Supporting Veterans With Compassionate Home Care Southwest Michigan

Visiting Angels of Southwest Michigan is a proud sponsor of the Veteran's Day Breakfast at the Air Zoo, in collaboration with the Portage Zhang Senior Center

At Visiting Angels® Southwest Michigan,  we are honored to care for veterans and ensure they continue to live with dignity and independence at home.   Many U.S. veterans — including those who served in the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, or Coast Guard — are eligible for  in-home supportive care  benefits through the Veterans Administration.

Proudly owned and operated by a dedicated father-daughter team, Ellen Kluck and Denny Stults, we're here to support you and your loved ones with personalized, compassionate care. Our purpose is to be your partner in independence, safety, and comfort.

Veteran Benefits for Home Care in Southwest Michigan

The good news is that veterans may qualify for financial assistance to help pay for home care through several VA programs. Whether your loved one served in the active military, or was part of the Reserves or National Guard, there are options available that may provide the support they deserve.

To qualify for personal home care or health benefits through the VA, veterans must meet the following criteria:

  • Served in active military, naval, or air service and were separated under conditions other than dishonorable.
  • Current or former members of the Reserves or National Guard who were called to active duty (other than training) and completed the full period of service.

How do VA Benefits Work with Visiting Angels?

Veterans may be eligible for home care support through several VA programs, including Aid and Attendance, Housebound Benefits, and the Community Care Network.

  1. Aid and Attendance Benefits: Veterans who receive a VA pension may qualify for Aid and Attendance benefits if they require help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, or mobility. This benefit is also available to those who are bed-bound, live in a nursing home, or experience significant vision loss.
  2. Housebound Benefits: Veterans who need to stay at home due to a permanent disability may qualify for Housebound benefits, which can help cover the costs of in-home care. Benefits are typically added to the veteran’s monthly pension.
  3. Community Care Network: Veterans who qualify for the Community Care Network may be eligible for assistance with home health care costs. A service care coordinator will assess the veteran's needs and help connect the family with qualified caregivers in their community. Benefits are paid directly to partner organizations like Visiting Angels of Southwest Michigan.

How Can Families Apply for Veterans Benefits?

To apply for personal care benefits, veterans or their families can complete the VA’s  10-10EZ form and submit it to the Veterans Administration. For guidance through the application process and to answer any questions, veterans can also visit the  Kalamazoo County Veteran Service Office to speak with  Ben Hackett, Kalamazoo's Veteran Service Officer.

You will need to provide documentation of your loved one’s veteran status, as well as financial and medical documents. Your VA service coordinator will help you understand exactly what is needed.
