Veteran Benefits for Home Care in Southwest Michigan
The good news is that veterans may qualify for financial assistance to help pay for home care through several VA programs. Whether your loved one served in the active military, or was part of the Reserves or National Guard, there are options available that may provide the support they deserve.
To qualify for personal home care or health benefits through the VA, veterans must meet the following criteria:
- Served in active military, naval, or air service and were separated under conditions other than dishonorable.
- Current or former members of the Reserves or National Guard who were called to active duty (other than training) and completed the full period of service.
How do VA Benefits Work with Visiting Angels?
Veterans may be eligible for home care support through several VA programs, including Aid and Attendance, Housebound Benefits, and the Community Care Network.
- Aid and Attendance Benefits: Veterans who receive a VA pension may qualify for Aid and Attendance benefits if they require help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, or mobility. This benefit is also available to those who are bed-bound, live in a nursing home, or experience significant vision loss.
- Housebound Benefits: Veterans who need to stay at home due to a permanent disability may qualify for Housebound benefits, which can help cover the costs of in-home care. Benefits are typically added to the veteran’s monthly pension.
- Community Care Network: Veterans who qualify for the Community Care Network may be eligible for assistance with home health care costs. A service care coordinator will assess the veteran's needs and help connect the family with qualified caregivers in their community. Benefits are paid directly to partner organizations like Visiting Angels of Southwest Michigan.
