Important Senior Care Wellness Tips for Stratham, NH and Surrounding Areas

The COVID-19 pandemic has the entire world at a standstill. Cases are rising every day, even in our local community of New Hampshire. This has families scrambling to figure out the best possible ways to protect their loved ones.

Visiting Angels of Stratham is here to help you during this trying time. From our office workers to our caregivers, we provide some of the most vulnerable people within our community with senior care.

With guidance from the CDC, our senior care facility has developed wellness tips to protect our clients as much as possible during this global health crisis.

Wellness Tips for Stratham Area Families

Maintaining healthy habits is key in fighting off illness, including COVID-19. Below are some of the many tips that our caregivers help their clients incorporate into their daily routine.

  1. Practice social distancing, without leading to social isolation: The primary way that the virus spreads is from person-to-person, according to the CDC. When an infected person sneezes or coughs, that could potentially spread the virus to anyone within six feet. One of the best ways to protect the elderly is to practice social distancing and remain at least six feet from others all the time. If not handled carefully, this could lead to social isolation and the possibility of developing other health problems. But, just because it’s best for the elderly to keep their distance, it doesn’t mean that they can’t stay connected with their loved ones. Keeping connected with video calls and phone calls can help a senior feel less alone during this difficult time.
  2. Maintain good hygiene habits: Research shows that good hygiene practices lessen the chance of contracting illnesses. Examples of good hygiene habits include hand washing, changing clothes, brushing teeth, and bathing. As a senior ages, these habits can become more difficult. But, with the assistance of one of our caregivers, a senior doesn’t have to worry about accomplishing these daunting tasks, while remaining safe.
  3. Keep the home clean: Depending on the surface, COVID-19 can linger on it for up to several days. That’s why it’s extremely important to keep surfaces clean, especially those that are touched frequently. The CDC recommends using soap and water to clean a surface, along with a household disinfectant. To relieve the stress of upkeeping the home, our caregivers can handle the housekeeping for their client.
