Home Care for Veterans
At Visiting Angels Abilene, Texas, we are committed to providing compassionate and personalized care for aging veterans in a way that honors their service while also supporting their independence.
As the number of elderly veterans continues to grow, the financial aspect of their at-home care is a major concern for them and their families.
The good news that many are unaware of is that veterans who have served in the US military (Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard) are eligible for at-home personal care benefits through the Veterans Administration (VA).
Does Your Loved One Qualify For Veterans’ Benefits?
To be eligible for financial assistance that covers home care, a senior veteran must meet the following criteria:
- Served in active military, naval, or air service.
- Was discharged from service under conditions other than dishonorable.
- Is part of the current and former members of the Reserves or National Guard who were called to active duty by a federal order and has completed the mandated period of active duty.
How Does Veterans’ Benefits Work?
U.S. military veterans may qualify for health and home care benefits through the Aid and Attendance or the Community Care Network programs.
Aid and Attendance Benefits
Veterans who receive a VA pension may qualify for Aid and Attendance benefits if they require special assistance. This covers those who need help with daily activities, are bed-bound, live in a nursing home, or have compromised eyesight.
Veterans who spend most of their time at home due to a permanent disability may also qualify for “Housebound” benefits. Usually, these benefits are paid directly to the veteran and added to their monthly pension.
Community Care Network Benefits
Veterans who qualify for Community Care Network benefits may also be eligible for assistance with home care costs. They will be assigned to a dedicated service care coordinator who will determine the number of hours per week required in terms of care.
The coordinator will also help the family connect with caregivers in their area. Unlike Aid and Attendance benefits, Community Care Network benefits are paid directly to partner organizations.
Abilene’s Veteran Care Community

How to Apply for Veterans’ Benefits?
Our local office has helped several veterans or their families with the complicated documentation process involved in applying for veteran benefits. You can contact us for help with filling out the 10-10EZ form .
The assisting staff member assigned to you may also request the necessary identification, financial statements, and medical or other relevant documents to support the application.
When’s the Best Time to Apply For Veterans’ Benefits?
The processing times for veterans’ benefits applications can be lengthy, so the best time to apply for home care benefits is before your loved one needs to use them. Customer Review
When my father was sick Visiting angels was a Godsend. I don’t know what I would have done without them. They came in and provided the best care and comfort. But most importantly they provided not just the daily care but also spent time visiting with him. I’m very great full for the VA in Abilene.
