Home Care for Veterans
The number of aging veterans nationwide is growing steadily, but one of the top concerns that most veterans and their families face is the financial aspect of at-home care. But there’s good news. Veterans who have served in the US military are eligible for at-home personal care benefits through the Veterans Administration (VA).
This includes veterans from:
- Marine Corps
- Army
- Navy
- Air Force
- Coast Guard
Visiting Angels in Albuquerque, New Mexico, offers professional at-home care for aging veterans. Our qualified caregivers are experienced in providing aid to veterans, and we take pride in helping them maintain their independence and quality of life.
With Visiting Angels, you can trust that your loved one will receive the highest level of care possible. Our caregivers undergo thorough background checks and extensive training to ensure they have the skills and knowledge necessary to provide top-tier care for our clients. We also offer care plans tailored to meet specific needs, ensuring your loved one receives the support and assistance they require.
Who Qualifies for Veterans’ Benefits?
If your aging family member has previously served in the US military, they may be eligible for financial assistance, including professional home care, provided they meet the following criteria:
- Served active duty in the military, navy, or airforce.
- Were not dishonorably discharged.
- Are current or former members of the Reserves or National Guard, called to active duty by a federal order, and have served the full service period.
How Veterans’ Benefits Work
Veterans in the US may qualify for benefits through the Aid and Attendance or the Community Care Network programs:
Aid and Attendance Benefits
Anyone receiving a veterans’ pension may qualify for Aid and Attendance benefits if they need special assistance. This includes those who need help with daily activities, live in a nursing home, are bed-bound, or have impaired eyesight.
Veterans confined to their homes due to a permanent disability may qualify for "Housebound" benefits. Typically, these benefits are added to their monthly pension and paid directly to the veteran.
Community Care Network Benefits
Veterans eligible for Community Care Network benefits may also receive assistance with home care costs. Qualified individuals will be assigned a dedicated service care coordinator to determine the required weekly care hours. The coordinator will assist the family in connecting with local caregivers. Unlike Aid and Attendance benefits, Community Care Network benefits are directly paid to partner organizations like Visiting Angels.

Applying for Veterans’ Benefits
At Visiting Angels, we help families of senior veterans apply for benefits. You can contact your local office for help with filling out and submitting the mandatory 10-10EZ form to the Veterans Administration.
Veterans or their family members must provide identification and proof of the veteran's status. Additionally, the assisting staff member may request financial statements or medical documents to support the application. Regardless of the method, your VA service coordinator can offer detailed information on the required documents for your application.
The Best Time to Apply For Veterans’ Benefits
Applying for veterans’ benefits can be a lengthy process. Therefore, it is wise to initiate the application for home care benefits well before your loved one requires them. We recommend starting as early as possible to avoid the financial burden of paying for home care out-of-pocket while awaiting approval.

Customer Review
Laney was my caregiver. She was fantastic, she got my groceries, helped with house keeping and cooking. The office was accommodating anytime I needed changes, like when I went to hospital. I also had people that did wound care, they were very professional and caring.
