Local Ann Arbor Caregiver Named Finalist for National Award
Visiting Angels, the nation’s leading provider of in-home senior care, announces Shera Williams of Ann Arbor, Michigan, as one of the 10 semi-finalists for its prestigious National Caregiver of the Year award.
Shera Williams joined Visiting Angels Ann Arbor nine years ago and has provided more than 22,200 hours of care to over 70 local families. She becomes a part of her clients’ families by providing support through the process of hospice and comfort care or keeping long-distance families up to date on their loved one’s care journey.
“There are thousands of great caregivers who can do the job and even exceed expectations, but very few who become a part of the family,” said Belle Churchill, Director of Operations at Visiting Angels Ann Arbor. “Shera truly leaves an impact on her clients and their families’ lives.”
Shera also fills backpacks with personally designed activities for each client to engage them in different ways. It’s her way of connecting with them and allows her to coax even the most reluctant seniors into getting up and about.
“Through her patience and kindness, Shera instilled hope in my mom each day,” said Julie, the mother of Shera’s client. “She brought out my mom's strength to get out and enjoy life again.”
Visiting Angels’ National Caregiver of the Year Award celebrates the extraordinary contributions of caregivers who go above and beyond to provide care for their senior clients and their families. The semi-finalists were selected from entries throughout the nationwide Visiting Angels franchise locations. The caregivers nominated embody Visiting Angels’ compassionate values and demonstrate excellence through the quality care they provide.
“Caring for our seniors requires empathy, patience, and positivity. Shera’s compassion for her clients and their families makes her an exceptional caregiver,” said Larry Meigs, CEO of Visiting Angels. “Our semi-finalists for the 2024 Caregiver of the Year award represent what Visiting Angels strives to be. Their dedication, compassion, and ability to provide hope in the most difficult situations embody the core values of our organization.”
Visiting Angels will announce the Caregiver of the Year winner at its annual conference in June. The winner will receive a $5,000 prize, and two finalists will each receive a check for $2,500.
