Social Care Program Helps Seniors Cope With Social Distancing

  • Last Updated March 19, 2024

As the coronavirus pandemic progresses, social distancing continues to be recommended by medical experts across the globe to limit the spread of COVID-19. Many people are confining themselves indoors and refraining from personal contact with others. For older adults, social distancing can be more problematic for their physical and emotional well-being.

Without being able to leave their house or welcome family and friends into their homes, seniors are becoming stressed, lonely and restless.

So how can you make sure your senior parents and elderly family members remain happy and emotionally connected during the pandemic?

Visiting Angels’ in-home caregivers are helping older adults stay connected through its Social Care program that teaches them how to use popular digital technologies such as Facebook, texting, video calls and more to communicate with their loved ones.

What is the Social Care Program?

Some seniors struggle with learning new technologies and decide to give up. In addition, memory lapses and age-related problems can make it more difficult for them to remember how to operate these tools.

Through the Social Care program, Visiting Angels’ caregivers help seniors learn to use and understand social media, smartphones, and other technologies to socialize.

The successful program has been in existence for years and satisfies the elderly’s need for social interaction. Our in-home caregivers understand seniors need personalized assistance with everyday tasks, including the ability to communicate and stay in touch with family and friends.

Our Social Care program provides them with a fun and effective “digital social life,” helping them to:

  • Use smartphones to text, call, and video chat
  • Send e-mails
  • Use Skype and FaceTime to see each other when long distance is an obstacle
  • Interact via Facebook and other social media channels
  • Surf the internet to find helpful information or to make online purchases

Through the Social Care program, our in-home caregivers use a compassionate approach to help older adults become confident in using popular digital communication tools. Our Social Care program and other home care services are aiding seniors to remain connected while maintaining social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.
