Veteran's Respite Care
Respite is defined as "an interval of rest or relief". What Respite Care does is provide for care for a short time when family caregivers need a break, a "respite. This gives a family caregiver the freedom to run errands, go to church, get their hair done, or even go to a movie and relax. It can even allow them to go out of town for a few days. Respite Care can be so beneficial for the long term health and well being of both Veterans and their caregiver.
Homemaker/ Home Health Aide Care
Homemaker/Home Health Aide Services are based on needs as assessed by the VA. A VA social worker can help a veteran and their family members to discover what specific types of assistance they may qualify for. For example, a veteran may qualify for just a few hours per week from an aide, or maybe up to 17 to 20 hours per week of assistance. Below are examples of various types of daily activities you may be able to receive help with:
* Food preparation and feeding
* Dressing and undressing
* Personal hygiene
* Showers, baths or bed baths
* Assistance with toileting
* Transfers and ambulation assistance
* Shopping and errands
Veterans can continue to receive aide services as long as the need for extra help with daily activities continues.
