I asked god what I should do with my life in September and I woke up the next morning and I knew I had to be a Visiting Angel. I officially became an angel on October 3, 2023.
My first client was Thomas and Dorothy. Dorothy and I looked back at that first day when I walked in and she says, “ Carole, how did you have such confidence? how many clients did you have before us?” I responded with “my father built your home! That’s why I have such confidence!” That’s exactly how I felt!
I had a wonderful relationship with Thomas. He loved to get out of the house so we often ran errands. The neighbors would often stop and say Thomas’ quality of life has improved greatly since you became his angel. As I got to know them I realized Thomas really wanted to get back to church. He was a deacon! I had asked Visiting Angels to schedule me for a Sunday when that shift became available. I received a call from Visiting Angels on Sunday, December 31st. The Allen’s needed an angel. I knew I was taking Thomas to church that day. What I didn’t realize was how important that was for him, as he was soon being called home… and he was bringing me back to God. I got Thomas and Dorothy to Church three times before Thomas passed. The pastor from Thomas and Dorothys church came and prayed over him as they turned off his heart pump and it was a beautiful passing. I am now a member of the church and I take Dorothy every 1st and 3rd Sunday. Dorothy has a beautiful picture of Thomas that I took, the day we went to church, in a corner of their home. I do my best to keep fresh flowers in a vase next to Thomas’s picture… flowers that I get from my yard. It’s been a beautiful way to honor him since his passing.
My Second client was John. He has dementia and aphasia. When I started working with him he was having difficulty walking and did not speak. I couldn’t figure out how to get him in the shower. In January his caregivers were changing, and John couldn’t walk at all. His legs were so swollen, he wasn’t getting regular water pills. After talking with his daughter, we started really addressing the issue, elevating his legs, using compression socks and she started monitoring his water pills. When I became his full-time caregiver, I began to see the greatest change. He’s now talking a little bit! Often in sentences. We started walking outside and gradually built up…from walking to the stop sign and back, walking twice to the stop sign and back, walking around the block walking around the block twice. Now on perfect days, we walk a mile and he started reading the street signs! I realized how important it was to the family that he actually gets in and takes a shower. After many attempts I realized if I stand in the shower he will follow, and I’ll show him where to hold on so he doesn’t lose his balance. Now I get him into the shower Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We have a great connection.
My third client is James. My first few shifts with him were exhausting. His wife is very particular about his care and his routines. I have become a better caregiver because of his wife. Their daughter is a very active member at church and this whole connection has been amazing! I now look forward to going to see James and Jean and we play all sorts of games and we have a really good time.
Being a Visiting angel has been such a rewarding experience for me. Moments like knowing John walked a mile, Thomas was so happy at church, flowers from my yard brighten Dorothy’s day… makes this job very special.
While I’m sad to be losing John as a client, when he goes into memory care , I am excited for the next client that I can help.

I like that they have the same aide providing care for her now. It makes my mom much happier. The aide lets me know anything going on weather bad or good. The aide helps by preparing meals for my mom. She anticipates her needs for dinner. She had gone to the point to where she will pick up her groceries if she runs out of anything.

We had great service from these folks, and they dealt with dad on a personable basis, and they were always there. If there was an issue or anything they would always contact us and give us an update on how dad's day was. They took good care of dad with his daily needs and prepared his meals, and they do his laundry, and they did a good job. If we had a problem, we contact them and if they had an issue they would contact us, and we would get it resolved. They were well-matched.

Visiting Angels is an excellent choice if they want to be like family, other agencies only see dollar signs. I struggle with day to day activities, I am a disabled veteran. Having the services achieved this. They are always my care, my appointments. They take care and go the extra mile, and receiving the best care possible. Anytime I need anything, they give me a direct number and give a 24-hour number. and when Visiting Angels comes I feel cared for and loved, they want me at 100%, and strive for that every day. They have been checking every box every day, I have not thought about other agencies.
