Using Meditation to Improve your Life
Meditation is a great way to reduce stress and improve mental health. There is a misconception that meditation can be practiced only alone in a quiet room. Whether you're walking, riding the bus, waiting at the doctor's office, or in the middle of an important business meeting, you can meditate anywhere. As a caregiver, life can get stressful and overwhelming, but meditation can help relieve some of that stress. You will learn about how meditation can help you improve your daily life in this article.
Before practicing meditation…
Be Mindful of Your Headspace
Meditating can be done in a variety of settings, but it is important to make sure you are mentally prepared for whatever activity you are about to embark on. Taking an Uber to your doctor's appointment, running late, and finishing your breakfast sandwich in the back seat is not the best time to meditate. However, if you are on your way to your doctor's appointment and realize you are 20 minutes early, and have a belly full of breakfast sandwich, that is a great time to meditate. Give your mind and body some relaxation time by closing your eyes and letting go of your thoughts.
How can meditation improve your life?
Meditation is Know to Improve Concentration
Many people who practice meditation regularly report being more focused and centered, and less distracted in day-to-day life. Meditation has also been proven to improve multitasking abilities.
Meditation Lowers Blood Pressure
Stress tends to cause our blood pressure levels to skyrocket, and this can be dangerous to our health. Dr. Randy Zusman realized that if patients wanted to improve their health, they had to make lifestyle changes as well as prescribe them pills to lower their blood pressure. He encouraged them to stop smoking, exercise, and meditate in order to lower their blood pressure. After following his advice, the patients began meditating and their blood pressure levels significantly decreased. They also felt calm, composed, and happy afterward.
Meditating is an Immune Booster
Meditation is proven to prevent illness and infection. In a study, people who meditated had more antibodies produced against the flu when they were given flu shots. Meditation has also been proven to reduce anxiety, depression, and fatigue.
Meditation Helps Relieve Pain
Meditation benefits both the inside and outside of your body. It is not uncommon to lift heavy objects or move in odd ways, which can take a toll on your body. For those struggling with chronic pain, meditation can be an effective alternative to using narcotics. While meditation is not a cure for chronic pain, it can help to relieve it during times when it flares up.
Meditation can Help You Be Present In the Moment
Often, we find ourselves going about our day when all of a sudden we wonder where the day went. It is common for caregivers to be rushed through the day taking care of their clients and not taking time for themselves. We can ground ourselves through meditation, and learn to live in the moment. Take a moment to meditate if you find yourself rushing through the day, and you will feel more relaxed and present.
You won't find a cure for everything with meditation, but it can help you improve your day-to-day life and make you more relaxed. It is essential for caregivers to remember to take care of themselves as well. We take care of our staff at Visiting Angels Cincinnati West and ensure they are looking after themselves while caring for others. Kindness and compassion are among our strongest values, and we will always adhere to them.
