FAQs About In-Home Senior Care

What Services Do Visiting Angels Caregivers Provide?

Our dedicated caregivers provide personal care services to assist with everyday activities, preserving your loved one’s independence so they can age in place. That means they can safely and comfortably spend their elder years in their current residence—whether in their own home, a family member’s home, or an assisted-living facility.

Our home care services include:

  • Companionship
  • Fall prevention
  • Grooming, dressing, bathing, and toileting assistance
  • Light housekeeping
  • Meal preparation
  • Medication reminders
  • Mobility and transfer assistance
  • Running errands

What Are The Benefits of In-Home Personal Care?

In addition to supporting aging in place, a professional caregiver provides many benefits, including:

  • Companionship and social interaction that reduce the risk of isolation and depression
  • Customized home care plans that reflect your loved one’s unique needs and requests
  • Flexibility to get services when they’re needed most
  • Lower home care costs when compared to assisted living
  • One-on-one, personalized care
  • Peace of mind that your loved one is getting compassionate care from a trusted professional
  • Supervision and assistance that reduces the risk of falls, injuries, and other household accidents

How Is In-Home Personal Care Different From Home Health Care?

Home health care is medical support provided in the home by a trained and certified health professional, such as a nurse, physical therapist, or occupational therapist.

Our caregivers do not provide medical care and will not assist with tasks such as administering medication or changing wound dressings.

Non-medical home care services will provide your older adult with companionship and help with activities of daily living, such as grooming, dressing, toileting, light housekeeping, meal preparation, and errands.

Does Visiting Angels Provide Services In Assisted Living Facilities?

Yes, we offer supportive services in assisted living facilities. Staff members at these facilities tend to care for more than one older adult during each shift. Some families hire our personal caregivers to supplement that assistance. As needs change, you may increase the duration or frequency of care for your loved one.

Can I Change The Home Care Schedule?

Yes, you can change or alter the home care schedule. The goal is to make the plan work for your family, not the agency. We generally ask for one week’s notice for permanent schedule changes, but we understand that unexpected changes are sometimes necessary on short notice. Coordinators will do everything they can to ensure you get the services you need to accommodate emergencies.

Does Visiting Angels Care For People With Alzheimer’s or Other Medical Conditions?

Although we do not provide medical care, our caregivers offer professional personal care services for older adults with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and other challenging medical conditions.

We handle daily caregiving responsibilities so you can focus on enjoying meaningful moments with your loved one.

Our flexible Alzheimer’s and dementia care services are offered part-time and full-time, 24/7, temporarily, and via respite care.

Can I Choose Which Caregiver Will Work With My Loved One?

We believe successful home care starts with finding the right caregiver. Through the Select Your Caregiver program, a care coordinator will get to know your loved one and provide a personalized recommendation to match them with the right caregiver successfully.

We will identify a caregiver with the skills and personality to assist your loved one. You will then meet them, and if you and your loved one approve, they will begin in-home assistance services.

What If I Would Like to Select a New Caregiver?

Working with an in-home caregiver can be an adjustment for older adults, and it can take time for your loved one and caregiver to get comfortable with each other. However, if for any reason at any time you feel the caregiver isn’t the right match, reach out to your coordinator and ask them to recommend a different caregiver.

What If I No Longer Need Services?

You can submit a two-week notice to cancel if you no longer need services. If you need to decrease the number of hours or days your loved one gets care, you can make permanent schedule changes with a one-week notice.

How Do I Start Home Care Services With Visiting Angels?

The first step is to contact your local Visiting Angels office to schedule a free home care consultation. A care coordinator will meet with you to discuss your needs, answer your questions, and give additional information about services.

If you partner with us, the care coordinator will perform a complimentary home care assessment and develop a care plan that outlines services for your loved one. Contact your nearest home care office or call 800-365-4189 to get started or get more information.
