What is my exposure if I just hire a private caregiver or contractor?
Hiring a licensed and bonded agency like Visiting Angels provides you with the safest and highest quality choice in caring for you or your loved one. If you hire an caregiver individually, they are your employee and you are responsible for state, federal and individual liabilities. You have to manage their time and there is no support staff to provide backup coverage if they call out. As your employee, you must deduct federal and state income, Medicare, unemployment taxes and worker’s compensation. Once you discharge them, they can file for unemployment. You also have liability for injury and auto coverage either as primary or secondary.
How does home care differ from home health?
Home care is non-medical assistance with activities of daily living. Home care is primarily private pay unless the client has LTC (long term care insurance – we can handle all LTC filing) or Veteran’s benefits.
Home health is primarily assistance in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy or nursing services such as wound care. Home health is covered by Medicare and some private insurance. Home health is also only authorized for a limited amount of time and requires a doctor’s authorization.
Q. What kind of services do you provide?
A: As a home care agency, Visiting Angels provides various elder care services such as personal care and companion care. Many seniors are unable to take care of themselves so in order to remain at home, they contact us to ensure that they get the support they need to stay at home safely, with dignity. Often, we assist on-site with medication and fluid reminders, fall prevention, grooming or bathing assistance, light housekeeping, and running errands.
Q: What does the term "aging in place" mean?
A: A term used to describe a senior remaining at home throughout their golden years, aging in place normally requires additional support services. Basically, it is the opposite of living in a nursing home, which is institutionalized residential care. However, there are times where aging in place also means getting extra help to remain in an assisted living facility.
Q: Do you provide services in assisted living facilities?
A: Yes, our home care agency does ensure additional support on-site, wherever it is needed. At times, people come to the realization that the help provided in an assisted living facility is insufficient to enable them to remain independent. In these cases, Visiting Angels sends a skilled, qualified aide to ensure someone is there to help.
Q: How quickly can care services be provided/started?
A: Ordinarily, we can provide services within 48-hours, and often, the same day.
Q: Can I change the schedule if I have appointments?
A: Indeed, we can accommodate your schedule change requests with as little as a week’s notice. At Visiting Angels of Douglasville, we believe in making the care schedule work for the family, not us. As such, we strive to do everything in our power to make sure the schedule you want is the schedule you get.
Q: How Can I Get Started?
A: Contact us. After a free, no-obligation assessment is booked, our staff will answer your questions during the meeting. Then, should you wish to continue with our home care agency services, we'll help you identify the caregivers who have the skills, personality, and availability to assist you and your family. You'll be able to meet the aide and if you approve, they will begin.
