Local Community Resources for Matawan Seniors and Veterans

A strong sense of independence can help seniors age in place, but we often rely on our communities to assist us with struggles we may encounter in life. Visiting Angels of Matawan encourages seniors to reach out to their community for help, from completing minor tasks to providing various types of support in making a transition or large change. We’ve put together a list of local resources Matawan seniors and their loved ones can use to improve their quality of life and find a helping hand within reach.

9 Local Resources for Matawan Seniors and Veterans

Visiting Angels of Matawan makes it our mission to help seniors connect with local resources to enrich their lives and guide them to the assistance they need. If you struggle to find assistance for yourself or your aging loved one, call us at 732-671-2899

Adult Protective Services

Everyone needs access to someone to call for help, regardless of the circumstances. Adult Protective Services (APS) assists seniors and their loved ones who may be the subject of abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation. An APS social worker will respond within 72 hours to investigate any claims and provide assistance where needed.

Matawan Adult Day Care

Adult day care programs can benefit seniors in many ways, from socialization to learning new skills. Matawan Adult Day Care offers nutritious meals, activities, trips, and new friendships on a daily basis, as well as physical therapy, health monitoring and advice, art classes, exercises, and transportation.

New Jersey Department of Human Services Division of Aging Services

Despite the long name, the NJ Dept. of Human Services Division of Aging Services works to connect seniors with local resources for support. Monmouth County has a specific Division of Aging, Disabilities, and Veterans Services in Freehold.

Hearing Aid Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (HAAD)

The HAAD program is one of three state programs assisting seniors with health-related resources. The other programs include the Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (PAAD) and Lifeline Utility Assistance programs. If you qualify, you’ll be eligible for partial reimbursement on the purchase of a hearing aid.

Senior Gold Prescription Discount Program

The Senior Gold Prescription Discount Program is separate from PAAD. This state-funded program assists local seniors with paying for prescription medications based on income.

HealthEASE

HealthEASE is just one of New Jersey’s many healthcare resources. This particular resource is geared toward older adults and aims to improve their quality of life, despite their health status. HealthEASE works to support your healthy habits.

State Health Insurance Assistance Program

Also known as SHIP, this program assists seniors with Medicare. If you or your aging loved one have questions or problems with your health insurance, SHIP representatives can help you navigate the complex system of Medicare.

Project Lifesaver

The Monmouth County Office on Aging and the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office have teamed up for Project Lifesaver, an innovative approach to tracking and finding people with Alzheimer’s and other memory conditions who’ve wandered away from home (as well as Autistic children). With this unique tracking system, seniors benefit from a quicker response time and rescuing effort to expedite their safe and fast return.

Monmouth County Division on Aging, Disability & Veterans Services

The Office on Aging (OOA) within the Monmouth County Division on Aging, Disability & Veterans Services is responsible for supporting seniors with various programs and services. The veterans services programs include everything from the American Legion to the VA’s Healthcare system and veterans transportation services.
