Local Newburyport Caregiver Named Finalist for National Award
Visiting Angels, the nation’s leading provider of in-home senior care, announces Michelle Squatrito of Newburyport, Massachusetts, as one of the 10 semi-finalists for its prestigious National Caregiver of the Year award.
Michelle Squatrito joined Visiting Angels Newburyport four years ago and has provided more than 5,500 hours of care. She has the remarkable ability to empower those she cares for and remind them they’re still their own person despite the challenges they’re facing.
“She shows up every day for her clients and their families, inspiring seniors to live independently and using encouraging words that instill hope during difficult times,” said Sanjay Rustogi, owner of Visiting Angels Newburyport. “I hope she never gets tired of caring for others because she brings a glimmer of hope to those in need.”
She’s a steadfast guide during tough times for clients and their families, including being a shoulder to cry on and helping them understand the hospice care process. Family members appreciate her kind and patient demeanor, which encourages their loved ones to perform activities they often feel they can’t do anymore.
“The relationship she’s built with my husband is just amazing. He’s often extremely grumpy, but Michelle’s kindness with him and how she can get him to do activities he resists, such as showering, is just incredible,” said Mary Ellen, the wife of Michelle’s client.
When Michelle isn’t caring for her senior clients, she volunteers in the community, supports the local hockey team, or rescues dogs.
Visiting Angels’ National Caregiver of the Year Award celebrates the extraordinary contributions of caregivers who go above and beyond to provide care for their senior clients and their families. The semi-finalists were selected from entries throughout the nationwide Visiting Angels franchise locations. The caregivers nominated embody Visiting Angels’ compassionate values and demonstrate excellence through the quality care they provide.
“Michelle’s dedication to providing care that goes beyond her clients’ basic needs, fostering an environment of trust, respect, and genuine affection, makes her an exceptional caregiver,” said Larry Meigs, CEO of Visiting Angels. “Our 10 semi-finalists for the 2024 Caregiver of the Year award represent what Visiting Angels strives to be. Their dedication, compassion, and ability to provide hope in the most difficult situations embody the core values of our organization.”
Visiting Angels will announce the Caregiver of the Year winner at its annual conference in June. The winner will receive a $5,000 prize, and two finalists will each receive a check for $2,500.
