About Lacey

Lacey is a city in Thurston County and a suburb of Olympia. Its rich history dates back to the mid-19th century when settlers Isaac and Catherine Wood claimed land there in 1853. Originally named Woodland, the town faced a unique challenge when applying for a post office in 1891. Another town called Woodland already existed along the Columbia River, leading to the selection of the name Lacey for the new post office. The city of Lacey was officially incorporated in 1966.
