Making The Most Of The Winter Park Library

Making The Most Of The Winter Park Library

Libraries are underutilized facilities that provide tremendous value to communities. They are great places to meet new people, engage with the community, and learn new things. They’re also the perfect place to go when you want to leave the house and relax somewhere welcoming.

What To Do At The Library

One main reason residents don’t use their libraries is that they don’t know all the services and resources they offer. As a senior in Winter Park, there are many reasons to check out your local library and enjoy some of the offerings of the Winter Park Library

Books

Books are the main attraction at the library. The Winter Park Library has a large catalog of fiction and nonfiction titles to browse and borrow. They also have digital books you can download to your eReader and audiobooks you can borrow on your smartphone. And if you need help downloading books to your devices, the librarians are happy to help.

If you prefer purchasing your books instead of borrowing them, you can buy books at the Polly Seymour New Leaf Bookstore. You can also donate your gently used books and DVDs if you need to make room for new additions on your bookshelves.

Beyond Books

People who aren’t big readers think there’s nothing for them at their local library. But libraries have more than books. The Winter Park library allows residents with valid library cards to check out:

  • Board games- family-friendly options and classics
  • Laptops- HP laptops and Macbooks for internet browsing
  • Musical kits- intended for adults and caregivers working with clients experiencing memory issues
  • Seeds- seasonal fruit and vegetable seed to plant in your garden
  • Walk kits- educational podcasts to learn about the routes while walking

Clubs And Special Events

The Winter Park Library has a vibrant events calendar with many monthly events and clubs for adults. You can join a book club, learn how to use recording equipment, take an art class, or join a meditation practice. The library also hosts special events with authors and wellness coaches. It even offers senior-focused seminars to help you with daily tasks like navigating your smartphone or learning about various television streaming services.

Community Partners And Resources

Libraries are the heart of their communities. The Winter Park Library partners with local organizations to provide community resources to residents. A few of the resources available for Winter Park residents include:

  • Aspire Health Partners provides screening services for mental health conditions and substance use disorders.
  • Access Lynx provides transportation services to those with disabilities or limitations.
  • The Center for Independent Living teaches essential skills for independent living.
  • The Social Security Administration helps seniors with retirement, disability, and medicare benefits.

You can contact the library to learn more about these programs or resources.
