What is my exposure if I just hire a private caregiver or contractor?
Hiring a licensed and bonded agency like Visiting Angels provides you with the safest and highest quality choice in caring for you or your loved one. You have to manage their time and there is no support staff to provide backup coverage if they call out. As your employee, you must deduct federal and state income, Medicare, unemployment taxes and worker’s compensation. Once you discharge them, they can file for unemployment. You also have liability for injury and auto coverage either as primary or secondary.
How does home care differ from home health?
Home care is non-medical assistance with activities of daily living. Home care is primarily private pay unless the client has LTC (long term care insurance – we can handle all LTC filing) or Veteran’s benefits.
Home health is primarily assistance in the areas of physical therapy, occupational therapy or nursing services such as wound care. Home health is covered by Medicare and some private insurance. Home health is also only authorized for a limited amount of time and requires a doctor’s authorization.
Q. What kind of services do you provide?
A: Visiting Angels of Powder Springs provides a wide variety of companion care and personal care services. Through our athome care services, we help seniors age in place and maintain their independence. Our care services include light housekeeping, medication reminders, and grooming or bathing assistance.

A: “Aging in place” refers to the ability of a senior to live within an environment where they’re most comfortable. For example, their home or their loved one’s home. We can help your loved one accomplish this through our at home care services. “Aging in place” is the opposite of moving someone into an assisted living facility or a nursing home. Other times, it might mean the ability to stay within an assisted living facility, with extra help.
