HCA Training Programs for Caregivers in Washington
Do you aspire to work as a caregiver but lack the experience or credentials? If so, consider a few of these options below:
Home Care Aide (HCA) Classes
Visiting Angels offers HCA Classes at our Tacoma and Olympia offices.
Students will learn the basics of caregiving that will enable them to take the state licensing exam. Topics include: Becoming a Home Care Aide, Client Focused Communication, Medication Assistance, Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s), HIV/Aids plus other special considerations caregivers should know to work in a long term care setting like in-home care, adult family homes, assisted living and other retirement settings.
Class requires 5 in-person trainings + 50 hours of on-line study. We are able to provide you with access to a computer for on-line training if you do not have a computer at home to do so. We find that our training is immensely successful because of the opportunity to practice skills with an instructor in the same location that you can take the test at, in addition to the experience and expertise of our instructors who are able to coach hands-on learners. Our classroom is a Washington State Regional Test Site Location used by Prometric to administer state HCA tests.
Give us a call at 253-537-3700 or email us to enroll in an upcoming HCA Class.
Work-To-Train Program
Visiting Angels offers a Work-to-Train program to our employees that allows for them to get an HCA license without facing all of the upfront cost. Visiting Angels will front the cost of the training course, state application and testing fees (click for the fee list and amounts) on your behalf. This cost is then paid back through a payroll deduction in small, manageable amounts. If you pay off the Work to Train and are in good standing with Visiting Angels, we will give you the cost of the class back, a $450 value!
- You can apply with Visiting Angels by filling out an online application.
- You can apply for your HCA license either apply online or print application.
- Additional licensing questions can be answered by reviewing the Department of Health Frequently Ask Questions, contacting the Department of Health or contacting our Visiting Angels HR Department.
Is your HCA license expired?
You can still be eligible for hire upon renewing your license! Expired licenses can be renewed by meeting the Department of Health’s requirements for Continuing Education and pay the fees. Review the Department of Health’s expired license application here.
Continuing Education Classes (CEUs)
The State of Washington requires each long term care worker to obtain 12 Continuing Education Credits annually by their birthday. Visiting Angels offers FREE continuing education classes to our caregiving staff and for a small fee to the public. Our hands-on continuing education classes are highly desirable to caregivers that learn best from seeing, hearing and doing. Not to mention, our in-person classes give you the opportunity to glean important techniques from other professional caregivers.
