Visiting Angels West Springfield Celebrates 25 Years of Homecare in the Pioneer Valley
On Tuesday April 9, 2024, Visiting Angels West Springfield proudly celebrated 25 years of business. Since 1999, the office has become a leading home care agency in the Springfield area in Western Massachusetts, receiving Home Care Pulse’s Provider of Choice award for the past 9 years!
Started in April of 1999, owner Michele Anstett began the 9th branch of the nationwide company that now spans over 600 locations all across the United States. Anstett’s extensive experience in an evolving sector had made her uniquely equipped to handle the modern challenges of the industry and successfully direct the business.
What attracted Anstett to starting a homecare business was exactly what makes Visiting Angels a well-loved company- a desire to provide dignified, affordable, personalized homecare to some of our society’s most vulnerable and underappreciated citizens, seniors and veterans facing age-related illnesses and conditions. Realizing the importance of human connection and genuine care, she wanted to do something for the elder community of Western Massachusetts that extended beyond just providing a service.
"We're not just taking care of somebody – we're building a relationship and that creates a much better situation," Anstett explains. "Even though you're inviting a stranger into your loved one’s home, they become family."
Because of this passion for going beyond for the community, the organization has been able to adapt and change with the various economic changes that the past 25 years has brought, most recently being the Covid-19 pandemic. Instead of sitting back and letting the state of the world take a toll on her community, Michele decided to be proactive and see what she could do for the seniors of Western Mass during the lockdown.
She knew that the main problems seniors were facing during the pandemic was loneliness and isolation and decided to meet the need at no cost to those who needed help the most. In the summer of 2020, Visiting Angels West Springfield began sponsoring weekly socially-distanced chair yoga sessions at Brownstone Gardens in East Longmeadow, taught by Sheila from Heartsong Yoga. These sessions became so popular that they still continue today.
Now in 2024, Michele continues to dedicate her business to improving the community in and around the Springfield area. Visiting Angels West Springfield looks forward to many more years to come helping Western Mass seniors maintain their independence in their own home or a senior living setting.
