Types of VA Home Care Benefits

Aid and Attendance Program

The Aid and Attendance benefit offers financial support to veterans and surviving spouses who need help with daily activities due to age, disability, or a health condition. Qualified veterans will have completed 90 days of active service.

Once enrolled, this benefit is added to the monthly VA pension, and can be used to pay for in-home care, assisted living, or nursing home care.

Homemaker and Home Health Aide (H/HHA) Program:

The Home Health Aide Care Program offers in-home care services that have been ordered by a VA physician. Eligibility requirements state that the veteran must be enrolled in the VA care system, and also show a clinical need for types of care including daily living assistance, medication management, physical therapy, and homemaking services.

Eligibility will be determined by VA care providers, and a care plan developed by your VA care team. Once approved, this benefit is paid out directly to home care providers to cover the cost of your care.

Who is Eligible for FREE HOME CARE in Wichita Falls, TX?

VA home care benefits are available to all US veterans who are enrolled in the VA healthcare system, if they meet these criteria:

• Served in the active military, naval, or air service and were separated under any condition other than dishonorable.
• Current and former members of the Reserves or National Guard who were called to active duty (other than for training only) by a federal order and completed the full period for which they were called or ordered to active duty.

This benefit is for individuals who have impaired vision, are bedridden, need help with activities of daily living (ADLs), or must live in a long-term care facility. “Housebound” benefits are available for veterans who are confined to their home for a majority of the time due to permanent disability.

Community Care Network benefits are overseen by a care coordinator. The service care coordinator determines the level of care required, and will assist you and your family to connect with agencies in your area.

Homemaker/Home Health Aide

If your VA medical team determines that you need skilled care due to a clinical need, you may qualify for the H/HHA program. This program is useful for needs such as medication management, therapies, diabetic care, or other medical care.
