Home Care for Veterans

Visiting Angels
Georgetown, TX

Visiting Angels in Georgetown, Texas, is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate, and personalized at-home care for aging veterans in the area. Our goal is to provide care and companionship in a way that honors their service while also respecting their independence and personal choices.

One of the key problems that a lot of veterans and their families have, however, is the increasing cost of at-home care. This is a problem that is becoming even more apparent as the number of elderly veterans continues to rise.

Luckily, veterans who have served in the U.S. military, including the Marine Corps, Navy, Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard — are all eligible for at-home personal care benefits from the Veterans Administration (VA).

Requirements to Qualify for Veterans’ Benefits

To be eligible for financial assistance that covers 24/7 at-home care, you or your veteran family member should ideally meet the following criteria:

  • You have previously served in the military, naval, marine, or air service
  • You were not dishonorably discharged from service. However, all other conditions of discharge are acceptable
  • You are part of the current and former members of the Reserves or National Guard. You were called to active duty by a federal order and have already completed the period of active duty requested of you.

How Do Veterans’ Benefits Work?

U.S. veterans may qualify for health benefits, including personalized at-home care benefits, through the Aid and Attendance or the Community Care Network programs:

Aid and Attendance Program

Senior veterans receiving a VA pension may also qualify for Aid and Attendance benefits. If they require special assistance, such as 24/7 at-home care, then the VA may also grant them financial support. This covers those who are bedridden, living in a nursing home, need help with daily activities, or have damaged eyesight.

Veterans who spend most of their time at home due to a permanent disability may also qualify for “housebound” benefits. Aid and Attendance Program benefits are usually paid directly to the veteran by being added to their monthly pension.

Community Care Network Program

Those already qualifying for Community Care Network benefits may also be eligible for assistance with at-home care costs. They will be assigned a dedicated service care coordinator who will compute the number of hours per week they require in terms of care, so that the care provider can also provide adequate assistance.

The coordinator will also help them and their families’ contact caregivers around Georgetown, Texas. The primary difference between Aid and Attendance benefits and Community Care Network benefits is that the latter is paid directly to partner organizations and not to the veteran.

Applying for Veterans’ Benefits

Veterans' benefits applications usually take quite a long time to approve. As such, the best time to apply for veteran 24/7 at-home care benefits is well before you or your loved one has to use them. We recommend that you begin the application process as soon as possible so that you can avoid out of pocket expenses on home care while waiting for approval.

The Visiting Angels local office in Georgetown, Texas, has successfully assisted several veterans and their families with the documentation process when applying for veteran benefits. You can also reach out to us if you need help filling out the 10-10EZ form.

The assisting Visiting Angels staff member assigned to you may also request the necessary identification, medical or other relevant documents, and financial statements to support the application.
