Who Qualifies For Veterans Benefits with Visiting Angels?

Did your loved one serve in a branch of the U.S. military? They may be eligible for financial assistance to help with home care costs. Veterans may qualify for home care or health benefits through the V.A. if they: 

• Served in the active military, naval, or air service and were discharged under any condition other than dishonorable.
• Served in the Reserves or National Guard on active duty (not just training) and completed their full service period. 
  
  

How Do Veterans Benefits Work?

U.S. military veterans in Carver County may be eligible for personal care benefits through the Aid and Attendance or the Community Care Network programs.

There are two programs to consider:

• Aid and Attendance: The Aid and Attendance program offers financial assistance to veterans who need assistance with daily personal tasks like bathing, dressing or eating. This also includes veterans who are bedbound, live in assisted living, or have limited vision. Qualified veterans may receive a monthly pension increase to cover home care costs. • Community Care Network: The Community Care program provides funding for in-home care services. Eligible veterans are assigned a care coordinator who will connect you with an approved home care agency in your area. These benefits are paid directly to the care provider.  
  

How and When Do We Apply For Veterans Benefits?

Families of veterans can apply for personal care benefits through the Veterans Administration, there are a couple of ways to do this:

1. Complete the 10-10EZ form online.
2. Visit the Carver County Veteran's Center, located in Chaska, MN and speak to a service coordinator, social worker, discharge planner, or case manager who can help with the application process and answer any questions about the program. 
3. Connect with us at Visiting Angels. They have staff that are experienced and able to assist with filling out the 10-10EZ form so that you can use their home care services.
   

Veterans can also visit another local Veterans Center if they live outside of Carver County and ask to speak to a service coordinator, social worker, discharge planner, or case manager. These staff members can assist veterans with their applications and answer questions about the program.

In order to apply, you will need to provide identification and proof of yours, or your loved one's, veteran status. You may also be required to submit financial statements or medical documents for eligibility. The VA service coordinator will give you more information about which specific documents are required for your application. 

Don't wait until you need the help. Applying for VA home care benefits before you need them can save you money. The approval  process can take some time, so get started early to avoid paying for care out of pocket while you wait.
