24-Hour In-Person Care for Seniors

As much as we want to care for our aging loved ones, we realize that being their caregiver requires more attention and experience than we might have anticipated. Many families tend to experience mental, emotional, and physical exhaustion and often feel guilty for feeling that way.

If this is you, know that we are here to support you. At Visiting Angels of Chelmsford/Burlington, we are a local home care agency who provides professional in-home support for seniors as well as relief and respite for family caregivers. We are available to provide care at any time of day or night, including being there for long-term 24/7 care.

What is 24/7 In-Person Care?

24/7 care, also known as 24-hour care or around-the-clock care, is a service where one or multiple professional caregivers will remain with your senior loved one, for all hours of the day and night. As their caregiver, we can provide non-medical care such as:

  • Personal hygiene assistance (toileting, bathing, grooming, etc)
  • Meal prep, cooking, light housekeeping
  • Medication reminders
  • Mobilization in and around the house, walking assistance, fall prevention
  • Transportation assistance, doctor’s appointments
  • Monitoring physical, emotional, mental wellness
  • Prevention of social isolation and companionship
  • And more!

See our full list of non-medical home care services.

What is the Difference Between Around-the-Clock Shift Care and Live-In Care?

Depending on your needs and preference, care can be set up in shifts, meaning multiple caregivers will be a part of the care team and rotate in shifts to monitor your loved one, or sometimes live-in care might also be an option.

Shift care means that there are multiple caregivers who will care for your loved one in shifts. Most likely you will have one or multiple daytime caregivers and then one overnight caregiver. As an overnight caregiver, the caregiver is awake for the full duration of his or her shift.

Live-in care means that there is one caregiver who will live in your loved one’s home for the duration agreed in your care plan. As a live-in caregiver, the family is required to provide a separate room where they can rest and leave their belongings. Additionally, they require periods of rest during the day.

Signs 24-Hour Care is Needed

Unfortunately, it is difficult to admit when your senior loved one requires more care than you can give them. By the time you realize care is needed, you may have already experienced an incident that made you realize the quality of care needed is more than you can provide and/or experienced caregiver burnout. But know that you do not have to go through these challenges alone. A full-time caregiver is only a call away! If you are caring for a loved one, the following signs would indicate that a full-time caregiver is needed:

  • If your loved one is reliant on wheelchair, walker, or scooter, etc in order to get around
  • If your loved one is recovering from surgery or illness and requires assistance getting around, taking medication, etc
  • If your loved one suffers from chronic conditions such as Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, or stroke and they require around-the-clock monitoring
  • If you are worried about your loved one feeling isolated or disconnected from society
  • Or if you are worried about your loved one’s overall well-being, health and safety such as fear that they wander, not getting proper rest during the night, not taking medications, etc

If you are worried about any of the above, then a full-time caregiver might be needed.
