Aging in Place with Help from a Visiting Angels of Pikesville Elderly Caregiver
WHAT IS AGING IN PLACE?
I’m Marcy Silver, Operations Coordinator of award-winning Visiting Angels of Pikesville. We solve one of the most difficult challenges facing families today…caring for loved ones requiring in-home companion or personal care. We serve Baltimore County, including Pikesville, Owings Mills, Reisterstown, Glyndon and Mt. Washington, Baltimore City, including Hampden, and Carroll County, including Finksburg, providing companion care and personal care to primarily seniors who need assistance in order to age in place.
Since 2005, Visiting Angels of Pikesville has been in business, providing home care to seniors who need assistance with their activities of daily living. Our goal is to help keep our clients as independent as possible for as long as possible. We firmly believe that home care is not something to be “sold” like a product. It is a service that people must believe in and trust before they commit. Home care is personal, private and usually sensitive regarding the emotions associated with a care recipient’s ever-changing needs.
One of the questions we are commonly asked is, “What is aging in place?” Quite simply, it’s the term used to describe the desire most seniors have to continue living in their own home; the desire to live at home for as long as possible before moving to a care facility. At Visiting Angels of Pikesville, our compassionate caregivers provide assistance with the activities of daily living that make aging in place rewarding. With our at home care services, seniors receive the one-on-one support they need to remain independent and live safely at home.
Visiting Angels of Pikesville provides companion care and personal care services. Our home care services are designed to provide assistance with those activities that the elderly need help with in order to be able to stay at home safely and with dignity. Some of the most common activities we help with include:
- Diet monitoring including planning for preparing meals and appropriate nutrition;
- Reminders to take medications, drink fluids and eat regularly;
- Light housekeeping including help with laundry, making beds and vacuuming;
- Assistance with shopping, running errands and transportation to appointments or activities;
- Assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting;
- Going for walks, engaging in favorite activities and friendly companionship.
