ACTIVE DUTY AND VETERAN CARE
Active Duty and Veteran Care
The area is home to one of the largest concentrations of military and veterans in the world. We have thousands of Navy, Army, Marine, Air Force, and Coast Guard personnel in the local area.
We have the world's largest Naval Base at Norfolk Naval Station
We have a major Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth.
We have one of the largest VA Medical Centers in Hampton that service veterans across Hampton Roads.
We are home to Joint Force Command - Norfolk, Coast Guard Atlantic Area and Region 5, and the Norfolk Naval Shipyard to name a few just in the Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Suffolk areas.
Visiting Angels of Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Suffolk is owned and operated by a disabled veteran. We get it.
We understand the military and we understand veterans.
As a Veteran, you deserve the best in-home care as a thank-you for your service.
You and your families sacrificed for us. Now, we are here for you. As a veteran, you have been the backbone of our freedoms -- whether you're part of The Greatest Generation of WWII, a Korean war vet, a Vietnam vet, a Cold War Veteran, a veteran of the Global War on Terror, or someone in between.
We have a contract with the Veterans Administration (VA) as a community care provider of home care/homemaker services. Our office is up to date with the latest in Veteran-assistance programs -- including VA medical and financial benefits authorized to help provide long-term care needs.
We also waive most of our requirements for VA-referred veterans, including our advance payments and minimum hour requirements.
Our owner gets medical care through the VA Medical Center in Hampton. We get it.
And our goal is to provide the highest quality care possible to our veterans so you don't have to settle.
As an active-duty Service Member, your family deserves the best in-home care while you protect our country.
I was once a single parent on active duty, primarily flying reconnaissance at Offutt AFB, the Pentagon, and Langley AFB. My son is on active duty at Luke Air Force Base, my daughter is married to a Marine stationed at Naval Air Station, Joint Reserve Base Ft Worth.
I know that caring for your family during deployments, run-ups, training, or on alert often weighs heavily on your mind.
That's where Visiting Angels comes in.
Whether it's for mom and dad, or a wife, or other family member, we provide the support your family needs so you can complete your mission with fewer worries about home.
We are flexible to meet their needs while you are focused on the job and we are flexible to meet the ever-changing demands of your mission.
Why Select Visiting Angels of Norfolk for At-Home Assistance?
We get it. We are owned by a 20-year retired veteran who even receives services from the Hampton VA Medical Center.
We understand the constant changing needs of training, deployments, run-ups, TDYs, etc., -- especially if you are trying to take care of a family member.
We offer in-home care services that meet the needs of our veterans and active-duty members. We are sensitive to your service and sacrifices.
And we have access to all the military facilities in the area.

VA Medical and Financial Benefits
What is the Community Care Network for Veterans Affairs?
The Veterans Affairs Community Treatment Network is a program managed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that aims to guarantee veterans access to high-quality treatment. If veterans cannot acquire these services at their VA medical institutions, they can access health care, dental care, durable medical equipment, at-home help, and more from neighborhood providers.
Visiting Angels is a VA Community Care Network Provider
Because Visiting Angels of Norfolk is a VA Community Care Network member, we can assist elderly veterans and their surviving spouses. Although you are more than free to make your appointment, your local VA could help you set up an in-home consultation with our experts. Additionally, we may help you file claims with the VA to defray the expense of our expert in-home care.
Because of our VA recognition as a Community Care Network provider, we can provide veterans in Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and the surrounding regions with in-home services that meet and exceed the quality and performance requirements.
If you're not familiar with the available VA benefits, below are just a few:
- VA Homemaker and Home Health Aid Program (medical benefit)
- Veteran Directed Care (medical benefit)
- VA Aid and Attendance Benefit (financial benefit)
Aid and Attendance: What Is It?
If you or your spouse are a veteran in need of professional in-home care, you can qualify for VA Aid & Attendance. This program provides monthly payments over and above the amount of a pension. Veterans must be acknowledged as VA beneficiaries to be eligible for Aid & Attendance payments.
To be eligible for Aid & Attendance financial pension benefits, you need to meet the following requirements:
- Need personal care services, such as help with dressing, eating, bathing, using the restroom, moving about, and other daily living activities (ADLs) at home.
- Have served at least one day during a wartime period
- Have not been dishonorably, or less than honorably discharged
- Meet a financial test
(see criteria on the VA Pension Eligibility Website)
The Aid and Attendance Pension Benefit is also available to surviving spouses! To qualify, they have to fulfill these prerequisites:
- At the time of the veteran's passing, the person had to be married, living with the veteran, and never have remarried.
- Must have been the veteran's spouse for at least a year or have had children with them.
