Comprehensive and Specialized Training for Dementia Care

All caregivers at Visiting Angels West Metro undergo thorough training in dementia care. We have 2 certified facilitators in the Virtual Dementia Tour as well as Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care ® (PAC), that each of our caregivers participate in as a part of their training.

During the Virtual Dementia training exercise, caregivers are outfitted with patented eyewear that distorts their vision, audio equipment that affects their hearing and devices that alter their sense of touch in the hands and feet. They are then given instruction to complete a series of everyday tasks. This experience gives them a first-hand simulation of the physical and mental challenges those with dementia face and helps them to provide more person-centered and compassionate care to those individuals.

Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care is a globally recognized dementia care method. Through this training our caregivers strengthen skills to:

  • Recognize and understand the different stages of dementia so they can adjust their care strategies for each stage.
  • Use positive reinforcement and person-centered methods to improve communication with each individual.
  • Reduce agitation through engagement and activity-based activities.
  • Support families with knowledge about dementia profession and shared caregiving techniques.

With PAC and the Virtual Dementia Tour training, our caregivers are better prepared to provide the highest-quality care that will enhance the lives of seniors living with dementia.
